,000 Flight Hours". That seems good. Return only that.F

The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, visited the Canarias Stratoport for HAPS & UAS located in the Technological Park of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura. During the tour he examined the results of a facility that has already logged more than 1,000 flight hours in its inaugural year, operating unmanned aircraft of various sizes and types.

Ten aerospace companies are currently active at the Stratoport and the multipurpose ISSEC centre as part of the Canarias Geo Innovation 2030 programme:

  • Telespazio Ibérica
  • Pegasus
  • Aerialworks
  • Skydweller
  • AtechSYN
  • Mira Aerospace
  • Aerolaser
  • Magline
  • TAO
  • Thales Alenia Space

The missions aim to develop technological solutions for emergencies, security and defence, environmental monitoring, biodiversity protection and mobility. Data gathered by the unmanned platforms are already being used to track wildfires, monitor coastal zones and oversee protected natural areas.

President Clavijo was accompanied by Lola García, president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura. She highlighted the broader impact of the park:

“The activity of the Technological Park is directly linked to attracting investment and creating qualified employment.”

According to a joint communiqué from the Cabildo and the Government of the Canary Islands, more than 1,300 people have received training at ISSEC since the centre opened.

Four Companies Showcasing Their Projects

During the visit, officials were briefed on the work of four firms already operating at the Stratoport:

  • Mira Aerospace – an 18‑metre‑span unmanned platform equipped with electro‑optical and infrared cameras.
  • AtechSYN – a fleet of four UAS dedicated to wildfire monitoring and beach‑security operations.
  • Magline – developers of European and national projects using 5‑metre‑span UAVs.
  • TAO – specialists in stratospheric HAPS platforms for telecommunications and Earth‑observation missions.

Strategic Role of the Stratoport

The Stratoport serves as a multipurpose hub for the development, testing and operation of HAPS and unmanned aerial systems (UAS). It is complemented by the ISSEC building, which provides mission control, data analysis, training facilities and technology validation.

Both facilities are integral components of the Canarias Geo Innovation 2030 programme, a joint initiative of the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo of Fuerteventura. The programme is co‑financed with European Next Generation EU and FEDER funds and focuses on Earth‑observation and communications projects that enhance public services.
