€10 Million Hydraulic Investment in La Oliva

“The renewal of more than 4,500 metres of pipelines, together with major structural works, allows us to reduce losses, optimise flow distribution and decrease incidents.”

The Water Supply Consortium of Fuerteventura (CAAF) continues a steady programme of improvement and modernisation of hydraulic infrastructure in the municipality of La Oliva. The set of actions, taken together, exceeds ten million euros in investment. The aim is clear: increase water‑supply reliability, cut network losses, improve water quality and ready the system for current and future demand in the north of the island.

To date, CAAF has replaced over 4,500 metres of pipes in several towns—including Villaverde, El Cotillo, Corralejo and Vallebrón—strengthening service stability and reducing failures caused by ageing infrastructure. This ongoing work is complemented by a major strategic project: the complete replacement of the Corralejo distribution network, a more‑than‑3‑million‑euro undertaking financed by the Government of the Canary Islands, which will markedly boost efficiency and reliability in one of Fuerteventura’s most water‑stressed areas.

“This investment is a firm commitment to the water security of La Oliva. Modernising networks, reservoirs and key facilities is essential to provide a more efficient, stable service that can accommodate the municipality’s growth,” said Lola García, President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura.

“We are not talking about isolated actions, but an integral plan that operates across the entire hydraulic chain. Renewing more than 4,500 metres of pipelines, together with large structural works, enables us to cut losses, optimise flow distribution and reduce incidents,” emphasized Adargoma Hernández, Cabildo Water Minister.

“These works mean fewer interruptions, better pressure, more regular service and a network better prepared for the future. We thank the Cabildo, the Canary Islands Government and CAAF for responding to a historic demand of the municipality,” added Isaí Blanco, Mayor of La Oliva.

Main Investments in La Oliva

  • Corralejo EDAM expansion and upgrade – €3 million.
  • General refurbishment of the plant’s transformation centre – €200 000.
  • Water remineralisation via calcite beds – €372 048.33.
  • Repair of the second Tamaragua tank – €31 030.
  • Connection of the Morro Francisco reservoir to Lajares – €2 200 000 (funded to date).
  • Conduit from Lajares reservoir to the Cotillo–El Roque network box – €260 000 executed.
  • New conduit segment from Casa Calero (Lajares) to the main reservoir – €16 907.07 (Canary Islands Government funding).
  • Gravity‑fed conduit linking La Oliva reservoir to Lajares – €1 197 434.03 (final phase).
  • La Oliva–Tindaya conduit (completed) – €1 500 528.51.
  • Project under preparation for a new reservoir in Tindaya.

The CAAF will keep advancing this investment plan in coordination with the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, the Canary Islands Government and the La Oliva Town Council, with the goal of consolidating a more modern, efficient and resilient hydraulic system throughout the municipality.
