107 older residents from Antigua set off on Mediterranean cruise
Antigua’s older residents have boarded a Mediterranean cruise organised by their association with a €70,000 grant from the town council.
A group of 107 older residents from Antigua has boarded a Mediterranean cruise in Barcelona, after leaving Fuerteventura on 7 November. The trip was organised by the Antigua Older People’s Association with a €70,000 grant from Antigua Town Council.
The group boarded the ship on 8 November. Social services councillor Sofía Alves said the itinerary includes Marseille in France, Florence, Cagliari and Palermo in Italy, and Valletta in Malta, before a direct return to Barcelona.
Mayor Juan Cabrera is accompanying the group for two stops, while Alves is also travelling with the residents. Cabrera said the council wanted to support older people’s wellbeing and active ageing, recognising their participation in local festivities and council activities.
Juan José Soto, president of the association, highlighted the residents’ enthusiasm for the trip and credited the selected travel agency and the council’s cooperation with helping to organise it.
