€1.1 million for Barranco del Ciervo works in Morro Jable

Project Overview

The improvement works will focus on enhancing the channeling, stability and drainage of the stream, while preserving the environment and the well‑being of local residents.

Funding and Tender

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through the Island Water Council, has opened a tender for the renovation of the Barranco del Ciervo in Morro Jable (municipality of Pájara) with a budget of €1.1 million. The works aim to:

  • Improve the hydraulic performance of this key watercourse.
  • Facilitate cleaning and routine maintenance.
  • Strengthen the structural stability of the ravine.

Interested companies may submit their proposals before the deadline in early May 2026. Full details are available on the official public procurement portal.

Statements from Officials

“Maintaining the streams of the ravines in good condition is an essential measure to guarantee their proper functioning and preserve the environment, also meeting a demand from the municipality of Pájara,” said Lola García, island president.

“Not only does it guarantee the stabilization of the ravine, but it also ensures the well‑being and safety of the neighbours in the area,” García added.

Water councilor Adargoma Hernández emphasized that improving the drainage of ravines and streams is crucial to facilitate maintenance work and prevent overflow risks during rainy periods.

Expected Benefits

The investment will address current problems such as sediment buildup and difficult access for cleaning, thereby:

  • Securing the hydraulic channel against future blockages.
  • Enhancing public safety for residents living near the ravine.
  • Contributing to the integral water cycle management across the island.

These improvements are part of a broader strategy by the Cabildo to protect natural resources and support sustainable development in Fuerteventura.
