12th Fuertebike Draws 700 Mountain Bikers to La Oliva

The La Oliva City Council, together with Columbus Eventos and the Fuerteventura Island Council, is organizing the XII Electrón Fuertebike – a mountain‑bike race featuring two sustainable courses of 45 km and 72 km that cross the island’s northern scenery.

La Oliva will host the XII edition of the Electrón Fuertebike on 27 September, gathering roughly 700 cyclists from both the island and the mainland. The event is being run by Columbus Eventos in partnership with the La Oliva City Council and theuerteventura Island Council, and it follows the traditional routes used in previous editions (45 km and 72 km).

In addition to the competition, the program introduces new elements such as rechargeable bike tracks, live musical performances, and a variety of side activities that enhance the event’s fun and social atmosphere. Organisers also stress the race’s environmental awareness, aiming to protect the natural surroundings where it takes place.

“Competitions like Fuertebike have already become a must‑attend for many of our local athletes and visitors to Fuerteventura who decide to take part. From the City Council we consider it vital to keep supporting events that put the emphasis on physical activity,” said Isaí Blanco, mayor of La Oliva.

The sport’s own slogan, “La Oliva is your sport,” was highlighted during the 2024 edition.

“Fuertebike transcends the municipal scene to become a standout gathering for athletes from all over Fuerteventura and beyond. It is undoubtedly one of the biggest cycling events in the Canary Islands, and for us, the Sports Department, it is a pride to host this event in La Oliva,” noted Gleiber Carreño, councilor for Sports.

“Tourism and the environment remain central to events like Fuertebike, as they attract not only our residents but also island visitors, positioning La Oliva as a combined tourist‑sport destination while respecting our most precious asset – the natural environment,” added David Fajardo, councilor for Tourism and the Environment.

The growing legacy of Fuertebike reinforces La Oliva’s reputation as a benchmark destination for sports tourism, offering a day that blends athletic challenge, sustainability, and the island’s unique natural landscape.
