2 Million Euros in Aid for the Primary Sector

The Cabildo plenary has approved the amendment of the regulatory bases to meet sector demands and reach as many beneficiaries as possible

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has revised the regulatory bases of the subsidies it grants to the primary sector, aiming to adapt them to the sector’s needs and reach the greatest possible number of field and maritime professionals on the islands.

In this way, the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries has worked to modify the bases of the current competitive‑call subsidy programme, a change that was unanimously approved today by the plenary of the island corporation.

“Establishing support mechanisms for the primary sector is essential to guarantee the competitiveness of livestock, agricultural and fishing activities, which play a key role in the island economy,” said island president Lola García.
“For this reason, the current aid call amounts to more than €2 million, aimed at the recovery of a sector that faces major constraints such as double insularity and rising production costs.” These constraints, she added, “are further amplified by the current international crisis.”

Once the bases are amended, García announced they will be made public, with the expectation of launching the subsidies, likely before the summer of 2026.

According to the councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Enrique Pérez,

“The new bases have been developed hand‑in‑hand with the sector, which has conveyed its demands to us.”
“By modifying the bases, the eligibility requirements are improved, especially for inventory‑related expenses and investment projects.”

Consequently, “the subsidies now extend to small and medium‑size farms, and the maximum limit is increased to €40,000, enhancing the competitiveness and daily work of farms and professionals.”

Pérez concluded that the Cabildo’s support for the primary sector “is also accompanied by the promotion of local products and sector training carried out by the island administration, fostering generational renewal and securing the future of the island’s agriculture.”
