22 million euros for the comprehensive overhaul of Puerto del Rosario's road network

Capital Approves the 2026‑2028 Paving and Pavement Plan

The ordinary plenary session of the Puerto del Rosario City Council, held on Monday, approved the municipality’s Paving and Pavement Plan for the 2026‑2028 period. The plan is a strategic tool that will enable orderly and rigorous scheduling of progressive improvements to the municipal road network.

The agreement authorizes a technical document that reflects a reality confirmed by municipal services: a significant number of local roads are in poor condition, featuring potholes, cracks, loss of surface layers and other defects that jeopardize both safety and the comfort of drivers and pedestrians.

In recent years, interventions have been limited mainly to spot repairs and urgent fixes, without the possibility of an integrated planning approach.

With this plan, the City Council establishes, for the first time, a structured framework that will:

  • Prioritize actions based on objective technical criteria.
  • Schedule execution within upcoming budget cycles.

“Today we take an important step to order something that our neighbors constantly tell us they need, namely the improvement of the condition of our streets, both in the urban core and in the villages,” said Mayor David de Vera.
“It is not just about paving, but about planning responsibly, prioritizing where it is most needed and ensuring that every euro invested has a real impact on safety and quality of life.”

Councilor for Works Ana Hernández added that the approved plan “is a master document that allows us to have a clear diagnosis of the current situation, estimate costs and define phases of action.” She emphasized that the agreement is programmatic, not a current‑year expenditure, and its implementation will depend on future budget allocations.

Scope of the Plan

The technical annex outlines actions in both urban and rural zones.

2026 interventions (urban neighborhoods):

  • El Charco
  • Las Granadas
  • El Llano de la Mareta
  • Tesjuates
  • Casillas del Ángel
  • The historic centre

Projects include renewal of basic services, installation of speed limiters, and comprehensive improvement of road foundations.

2027‑2028 interventions (rural nuclei and key municipal axes):

  • Ampuyenta, Tefía, Tetir, La Asomada, La Matilla, Vega Nueva
  • Major urban avenues such as León y Castillo, Juan de Bethencourt, and Avenida de la Constitución

The total estimated cost of the planned works is €22,438,026.13, underscoring the scale of the effort required to progressively renew the municipal road network.

“We are aware that the state of the roads directly influences citizens’ daily lives—whether commuting to work, reaching schools, or conducting commercial activity,” the mayor noted. “With this plan we lay the foundations to intervene with criteria, avoiding continuous patches and betting on lasting solutions.”

Following the plenary approval, the technical services will be tasked with drafting specific project proposals for each phase, enabling them to be processed and tendered as financing becomes available. In essence, the plan provides a clear roadmap for progressive, coordinated action across all neighborhoods and villages of Puerto del Rosario.
