€2.7 million for North Fuerteventura's Water Supply

New pumping station boosts the water situation in Lajares, Majanicho, El Roque and El Cotillo

The works carried out at the Morro Francisco reservoir, located near the town of Corralejo, increase the hydraulic capacity of the Cabildo’s Water Authority (CAAF) in the north of the island.

The new infrastructure will decentralise the dependence on the Puerto del Rosario plant for the surrounding localities. The Corralejo desalination plant now takes centre stage, producing:

  • 5,000 m³ of desalinated water per day
  • 1,825,000 m³ per year

Both the existing Puerto del Rosario network and the new Morro Francisco station will raise the flow available for human consumption in the various villages of La Oliva.

Official statements

“These improvements in the network, in the volume of desalinated water and in the pumping station give us a more efficient and higher‑quality water supply, always with the aim of improving services for residents,”
Adargoma Hernández Rodríguez, Water Commissioner of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura

“Access to quality water is a fundamental right and a priority for our institution. These works not only optimise production capacity, but also guarantee a safe and stable supply for the population. We will continue modernising Fuerteventura’s hydraulic infrastructure to meet current and future needs,”
Lola García, President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura

“Any improvement in infrastructure is welcome, especially for localities that have historically faced high pressure. This eases the reliance on a single network and benefits all residents of La Oliva,”
Isaí Blanco

Funding and planning

The project is part of the hydrological plan approved by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura in August 2023 and is financed with funds from the FDCAN (Fondo de Desarrollo de Canarias).

These investments aim to secure a stable, high‑quality water supply for the northern communities of Fuerteventura, supporting both residents and the island’s growing tourism sector
