€320k Water Investment in Altavista, Tuineje

The Consortium for Water Supply to Fuerteventura (CAAF) will carry out a major works project to completely renew the potable‑water distribution network in the Altavista neighbourhood of the municipality of Tuineje. The intervention is needed to modernise an ageing, heterogeneous system built with obsolete materials and varying pipe diameters that no longer guarantees an adequate supply for the whole district.

The existing network was installed progressively as the neighbourhood expanded, resulting in conduits ranging from 32 mm to 63 mm that are insufficient in some points, frequent breakages that cause supply interruptions, and high maintenance costs.

A Project to Improve Service and Reduce Breakdowns

The plan calls for the replacement of all existing pipe sections in Altavista’s distribution network. Standardising pipe diameters will improve hydraulic efficiency and dramatically cut the number of failures, providing residents with a more stable and reliable water service.

“The renewal of Altavista’s network is a necessary action to ensure a reliable and continuous supply of drinking water. From the Cabildo and CAAF we continue to prioritise investments that directly impact citizens’ wellbeing and the proper functioning of essential infrastructure,” said Lola García, President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura.

“This is a network that has been in service for many years and has suffered numerous incidents. With this work we will replace deteriorated sections and unify diameters, which will reduce breakages and allow us to manage any incident affecting the smallest possible number of connections,” added Adargoma Hernández, Island Water Minister.

Technical Description of the Works

  • Complete replacement of Altavista’s potable‑water pipes with a new, more durable system of higher capacity.
  • Installation of a main conduit from the storage tank, feeding an interior distribution grid that runs through the neighbourhood’s streets to improve pressure and stability.
  • Upgrading of service connections to each dwelling and installation of new valves that enable isolation of specific zones in case of a fault, avoiding total network shutdowns.

These measures will significantly reduce pipe ruptures and enhance the overall quality of service for the community.

Budget and Timeline

  • Base tender budget (including IGIC): €327,713.70.
  • Interested companies may submit their offers by 15 December 2025.

Commitment to Efficient Water Management

With this project, CAAF and the Cabildo of Fuerteventura reaffirm their dedication to modernising strategic hydraulic infrastructure across the island, focusing on areas where networks are oldest, experience frequent incidents, or have limited capacity.

“Improving distribution networks is key to optimising resources, reducing losses, and delivering a service that meets the real needs of each population centre,” concluded Lola García.
