59 People Rescued at Sea Early This Morning
They were transferred to Gran Tarajal and were in good health.
The rescue vessel Salvamar Izar saved 59 individuals in the early hours of this morning, about 40 miles east of Fuerteventura, from a drifting inflatable boat.
The boat is believed to have departed from an area near the port of El Aaiún, and its occupants were of Sub‑Saharan and Maghreb origin.
The operation was carried out in cooperation between the Salvamar and the aircraft Sasemar 103, which located and marked the vessel’s position at sea.
The migrants were taken to the Gran Tarajal dock, where the Red Cross prepared the reception facilities; no hospital transfers were reported.
