7 Million Euros for Antigua’s Sports City

The Government Council of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura has approved today the basic and execution project for the comprehensive renovation of the Antigua Sports City, a strategic initiative that will complete a key infrastructure for the municipality’s sporting development.

The intervention carries a base tender budget of €7,024,716.97 and will be promoted and executed by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, with the support of the Consejo Superior de Deportes. With this approval, the Cabildo launches the administrative procedure for the tendering and award of the works, taking a decisive step toward realizing a long‑awaited facility.

The project envisages an integral set of works, including:

  • Excavation and foundation works
  • Construction of a new grandstand
  • Multi‑sport areas, dressing rooms, warehouses and auxiliary installations
  • An artificial‑turf football field and an athletics track, both certified by the Consejo Superior de Deportes to host official national and international competitions

“This project reflects the Cabildo’s firm commitment to continue improving public facilities and generating opportunities in all municipalities. We are talking about a significant investment that not only promotes sport but also contributes to the economic and social development of Fuerteventura.” – Lola García, President of the Cabildo

“With the project’s approval we begin the tendering process for works that will finally complete this infrastructure. This is an action that has required a rigorous technical update to ensure its proper execution and viability.” – Blas Acosta, Councilor for Infrastructure

“We are facing a modern, certified facility ready to host high‑level sporting events, but also designed for the daily use of our athletes and clubs. It is a clear commitment to grassroots sport and to the external projection of the municipality and the island.” – Luis González, Councilor for Sports

The undertaking is framed within the Plan Insular de Cooperación a las Obras y Servicios (PICOS), which enables the Cabildo to execute strategic infrastructures in coordination with the municipalities.
