75 Affordable Homes Allocated in Puerto del Rosario and El Matorral

Puerto del Rosario will receive 75 new publicly‑promoted protected homes following a provisional award by the Canary Islands Government’s Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Mobility, through the Canary Institute of Housing (ICAVI). The total investment exceeds €12 million and is carried out under Decree‑Law 1/2024, a set of urgent measures to tackle the housing emergency in the Canary Islands.

47 Homes in Puerto del Rosario and 28 in El Matorral

The works will take place on two parcels within the municipality. In the urban core of the capital, between Don Quijote, Dulcinea and Sorolla streets, 47 homes with accompanying garage spaces will be built. The contract was awarded to a joint venture formed by Tecnología de la Construcción y Obras Públicas, S.A. and Obras Públicas Canarias, S.L. (OPC) for €6.8 million.

In the locality of El Matorral, between Bernegal, El Alpende and Tabajoste streets, another 28 homes with garages will be constructed. This contract went to Citanias Obras y Servicios, S.L.U. for a budget of €5.36 million.

Puerto del Rosario Highlights the Response to Fuerteventura’s Housing Demand

“This award is the result of constant collaboration between the Puerto del Rosario City Council and the Government of the Canary Islands. We have streamlined procedures and coordinated efforts because we know that housing is today one of the main concerns of our citizens,” said Mayor David de Vera.

“It’s not just bricks and cement; for many families in Puerto del Rosario these homes represent a real chance to obtain a dignified and stable dwelling,” emphasized Housing Councilor Toñi Fernández Aragón.

“The construction of these 75 homes shows that, in this particular case, good urban planning translates into concrete homes for the families of Puerto del Rosario,” added Urban Planning Councilor Ana Hernández.

The Canary Islands Government highlighted that the award reinforces its commitment to creating public housing across the islands, addressing the growing demand in Fuerteventura. The capital’s City Council praised the project as “an example of how institutional cooperation can be turned into concrete solutions for citizens.”
