77-Year-Old Tourist Rescued After Falling in Calderón Hondo

The Polish tourist suffered an open ankle fracture while walking the Calderón Hondo trail in Los Lajares and was evacuated by emergency services to a medical centre.

A 77‑year‑old woman from Poland was injured on Sunday, 25 January, after she fell in the Calderón Hondo area of Los Lajares (municipality of La Oliva).

The incident was reported to the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 1‑1‑2, which immediately activated the municipal emergency services.

According to the La Oliva Local Police, the tourist was exploring the natural site when she slipped on the upper part of the trail, near the viewpoint at the summit of the volcano, resulting in an open fracture of her ankle.

A local police patrol arrived on the scene and coordinated with firefighters from the Fuerteventura Emergency Fire Consortium, the Civil Guard, and later with medical personnel from a Canary Islands Health Service ambulance.

The firefighters immobilised the victim, placed her on a stretcher, and carried her on foot to the parking area. There, the health team provided initial care before evacuating her by ambulance to the appropriate medical centre for assessment and treatment.
