AEMET Maintains Wind and Light Rain Warnings for Fuerteventura After Francis Storm Passes

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) is maintaining for this Friday warnings for wind and possible precipitation in Fuerteventura, within an episode of atmospheric instability associated with the low‑pressure system Francis, which has affected the Canary archipelago during the first days of the year.

According to the forecast, Fuerteventura experiences a more moderate impact compared with other islands, although yellow‑level alerts for coastal phenomena and wind remain active, as does the possibility of light to moderate rain. The wind will come from the southwest, with gusts that could reach strong intensity in exposed areas, especially during the early morning and the first hours of the day.

During the night and early morning hours, cloudy skies are expected, with a probability of locally intense showers, which could be accompanied by isolated thunderstorms. Throughout the day, cloud cover will tend to increase, with the possibility of intermittent precipitation, especially in the north and west areas of the island.

Regarding the wind, it is expected to be moderate to strong, with a southwest predominance and shifting westward as the day progresses. These conditions could cause occasional disruptions to traffic, especially on exposed stretches, as well as to outdoor activities and the coastline.

Temperatures will remain relatively stable, with mild lows and highs, typical for this time of year on the island.

AEMET advises the public to exercise extreme caution, especially in coastal zones, wind‑exposed areas, and while traveling, and to stay informed about possible updates to the weather warnings.
