AFFA Fuerteventura to receive extra €26,000 as NC-BC challenges Canary Islands social budget
Natalia Santana welcomed extra funding for AFFA Fuerteventura but criticised cuts and freezes in the Canary Islands’ 2027 social budget.
AFFA Fuerteventura will receive an extra €26,000 in the Canary Islands Government’s 2027 social welfare budget. Nueva Canarias–Bloque Canarista (NC-BC) MP Natalia Santana discussed the figures on 5 November 2026.
Speaking in committee, Santana welcomed the increase and extra funds for dependency support. But she said these rises did not make up for cuts and funding freezes elsewhere. The affected areas included social welfare, equality, youth, children and families.
Her criticism focused on the regional budget of the governing Coalición Canaria–Partido Popular coalition. It did not concern a separate spending plan for Fuerteventura.
Support for women and low-income households
Santana set out figures for aid to women who have experienced gender-based violence and face particular difficulty finding work. Funding falls from €1.54 million in 2023 to €600,000 in 2027. She said the 2027 sum was also more than €600,000 below the amount budgeted for 2026.
She also gave figures for the Canary Islands emergency social fund for women affected by gender-based violence. It would receive €390,000 in 2027, down from €840,000 in 2023.
Santana criticised the funding freeze for Renta Canaria de Ciudadanía, which provides income support. Its budget would stay at €113.333 million, the same as the previous year. She said extra payments for housing and education had still not been introduced, despite being provided for in law.
Children, disability and youth services
The MP said foster care funding would fall from €9.42 million in 2026 to €6.92 million in 2027. Funding for programmes that support children and families would stay at €7 million for a third year.
She reported a 0.14% rise in funding for the programme that promotes disabled people’s rights. Funding for Plena Inclusión, Apanate and Asomasamen remained unchanged.
Santana asked minister Candelaria Delgado to address the individual sums she said were being cut or frozen. She urged her not to focus on the rise in the department’s overall budget.
The report gives no detailed account of how the regional funding would affect services on Fuerteventura. It identifies only the extra €26,000 for AFFA Fuerteventura and includes no response from the minister.
