Africa, Technology, Renewables and Sustainability Take Center Stage in Fuerteventura

Tomorrow the Africagua Canarias 2025 forum will open, bringing together institutional representatives, leading companies and international financing bodies at the Palacio de Formación y Congresos de Fuerteventura. Delegations are still arriving on the island and finalising their meeting schedules for the event.

With more than a decade of history, Africagua has become a key platform for fostering cooperation between the Canary Islands and Africa. Participating countries this year include Mauritania, Gambia, Senegal, Cape Verde and Morocco. The programme features high‑level conferences, thematic panels and, especially, bilateral B2B meetings that connect public administrations, project developers and multilateral financiers responsible for large water and energy projects.

“The Africagua forum puts the island back at the centre of the international sustainability dialogue, positioning the Canary Islands as a strategic partner for Africa in critical areas such as water management, desalination and the energy transition,” said Juan Jesús Rodríguez Marichal, president of the Fuerteventura Chamber of Commerce. He added that the water‑energy nexus is “fundamental for the economic and social development of any territory, especially island and arid regions.”

The forum was created to generate synergies between Europe and Africa, promote business alliances and provide an effective working space for institutions, executing agencies and international funders. This edition aims to identify new cooperation opportunities, facilitate knowledge transfer and showcase technological innovation.

The Fuerteventura Chamber of Commerce invites companies, institutions and media to closely follow the event, which once again reinforces the island’s role as a natural bridge between continents in matters of sustainability and development.
