Agrofuer Discovers Rural, Agricultural Fuerteventura in Tuineje
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has launched the first edition of Agrofuer, a dynamic fair that forms part of the “Fuerte by Nature” programme, promoted by the Tourism Department and funded by the European Next Generation EU funds. The initiative aims to boost the economy of rural areas and encourage the consumption of zero‑kilometer (local) products.
The event will take place over two days, 5 and 6 September, offering gastronomy, music and a varied cultural programme so that residents and tourists can experience the unique character of Fuerteventura guided by leading sector experts. In addition, two traditional craft workshops will be held, taught by artisans from the island of La Majar.
“Agrofuer is much more than a fair; it is, above all, a space where zero‑kilometer products, craftsmanship and Majara culture come together,” said Lola García, President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura.
“During those days, Tuineje will become a meeting point to show that Fuerteventura is far more than sun and beach. It is countryside, it is history, it is living culture,” she added.
Marlene Figueroa, the Tourism Minister, emphasized that “tourism increasingly seeks higher‑quality destinations. That quality must be conveyed through local products, gastronomy and our culture.”
Candelaria Umpiérrez, Mayor of Tuineje, expressed gratitude for the choice of her municipality to host the inaugural edition of Agrofuer and invited everyone to take part in the festivities.
Juan Jesús Rodríguez, President of the Fuerteventura Chamber of Commerce, highlighted that “this fair is important for the Chamber because the tourism sector drives the island’s economy, but it must also act as a catalyst for other sectors to energize them.”
The project is a joint effort by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the island’s Chamber of Commerce, which signed an agreement on 6 August under the principle of linking tourism growth with the development of rural communities.
