AgroFuer opens in Tuineje with around 20 participating stalls

Workshops, showcooking, cultural routes and music will fill the fair, which features around twenty stalls from local associations, producers, merchants and artisans.

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura inaugurated the first edition of AgroFuer, an initiative framed within the “Fuerte by Nature” programme, promoted by the Tourism Department and funded by the EU Next Generation funds. The fair hosts roughly twenty stalls, thanks to the participation of local associations, producers, merchants and artisans.

The project is being developed by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, the Tourism Department and the Chamber of Commerce, under a collaboration agreement that links tourism growth with the development of rural communities, according to the press release issued by the island corporation.

The initiative aims to boost the economy of rural villages and promote the consumption of zero‑kilometer products. A full programme of activities will run throughout the weekend, turning the event into a meeting point for the primary sector, gastronomy and popular culture of Fuerteventura.

The inauguration was attended by the island’s president, Lola García, the tourism councilor Marlene Figueroa, the mayor of Tuineje Candelaria Umpiérrez, and the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Fuerteventura Juan Jesús Rodríguez.

“A space that unites our gastronomy, craftsmanship and culture,” said President Lola García, welcoming an event that promotes the rural economy and encourages the consumption of local products.

“AgroFuer is gastronomy, local product and craftsmanship that adds value to the tourism chain, which should not focus solely on sun and beach,” explained Tourism Councilor Marlene Figueroa. “It is held under an agreement, through the Tourism Department and the Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan, to ensure that local products also become part of the destination.”

“Today we celebrate, with the island’s best products, the effort and work of the men and women of the fields, the sea and the crafts,” added Mayor Candelaria Umpiérrez.

“We are convinced this is an initiative that allows all sectors to benefit,” emphasized Juan Jesús Rodríguez Marichal, president of the Chamber of Commerce.

Also present were the Commerce Councilor Lolina Negrín, Tourism councilors Dulce García, the primary‑sector councilor Jonathan Peña, and other island and municipal representatives.
