Aguas de Antigua Cuts Losses to 4%
A shock plan carried out by Canaragua has lifted the company’s efficiency from 90 % to 96 % in just six months, the Antigua City Council – the majority shareholder of the mixed‑ownership water utility serving Caleta de Fuste and Costa de Antigua – reported.
The mixed‑ownership company Aguas de Antigua achieved a water‑delivery efficiency of 96 % in 2025, meaning losses were reduced to 4 %, an improvement over previous years.
These results stem from a comprehensive “shock” plan implemented by the technical firm Canaragua, which included:
- Rapid response to leak detection and repair to minimise losses.
- Modernisation of key infrastructure to ensure supply stability.
- Installation of a tele‑reading system on almost all meters for precise consumption monitoring.
According to the Antigua City Council, the utility moved from efficiency levels below 90 % to nearly 96 % within a single semester.
In a statement, the council noted that Mayor and President of Aguas de Antigua, Matías Peña García, conveyed at the latest Board of Directors meeting his intention to expand the service area and management scope of the mixed company, describing it as “an ambitious but feasible project.”
The 2025 shock plan is being reinforced with the upcoming award of more than €400,000 for two contracts that will:
- Extend the photovoltaic solar installation, and
- Provide civil‑works services for the maintenance and expansion of hydraulic infrastructure within the area served by Aguas de Antigua.
