Air Baltic flight diverted to Fuerteventura as wind prevents Gran Canaria landing

An Air Baltic aircraft was diverted to Fuerteventura on 7 November after wind prevented it from landing at Gran Canaria Airport.

An Air Baltic flight was diverted to Fuerteventura on the evening of 7 November after wind prevented it from landing at Gran Canaria Airport, also known as Gando.

The diversion came as Storm Bruna began to affect airports across the Canary Islands. The aircraft had reportedly attempted to land at Gando before continuing to Fuerteventura.

The passengers, described as Scandinavian tourists, were expected to need accommodation for the night in Fuerteventura because of the weather conditions. Their arrangements had not been confirmed.

At the time, inter-island operations were reported to be running normally, including Binter’s ATR aircraft.
