Airlines Want More Money

They consider the €319 million credit for subsidies to residents insufficient

The Association of Airline Lines (ALA) said in a statement that they consider “the €319 million credit approved in this Law for subsidies to residents of the Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, Ceuta and Melilla completely insufficient.” This money, which has been “advanced by the airlines that operate the routes connecting these regions with the mainland and the inter‑island flights,” is insufficient for the airlines.

They claim it is “a fundamental problem that the Government refuses to solve and that is caused by the under‑funding of the 2023 public accounts, which have been extended since then.” In this sense, ALA warns that if the Executive does not take a firm step and adopt a solution to this financing problem soon, it will worsen in 2025, by which time the State’s debt to the airlines will exceed €1 billion.

“If the Executive does not adopt a solution promptly, the problem will become even more unsustainable for the airlines and could affect air connectivity, which would greatly harm residents and the economic development and employment of these regions,” said Javier Gándara, president of the Association of Airline Lines (ALA).
