Albares assures Clavijo no Canary Islands issues were discussed at the Morocco summit

“Canary Islands will continue talking over the coming weeks with the State to prevent similar situations from occurring in the future.”

Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Minister José Manuel Albares assured Canary Islands President Fernando Clavijo that no matters affecting the archipelago were discussed, either directly or indirectly, during the 13th High‑Level Meeting (RAN) between Spain and Morocco, which took place on Thursday in Madrid.

Albares conveyed this to the regional leader via his official X (formerly Twitter) profile, adding that the minister relayed the message during a phone call early on Friday.

Clavijo replied that the Canary Islands “have indeed been present” in other high‑level meetings, noting that both the Statute of Autonomy and the Canary Agenda “guarantee” the archipelago’s participation in such encounters.

Furthermore, the Canary president emphasized that his government will continue discussions with the State over the next weeks to avoid similar situations in the future.
