ALSA workers plan indefinite strike over discretionary transport in Fuerteventura

They talk about expired inspections, marathon shifts, and deactivated safety systems

The staff of NEX Continental Holdings, S.L.U., a company belonging to the Alsa Group, have called an indefinite strike starting on 2 March due to the working conditions at the transport firm.

“The limit has been reached, with endless shifts, constant pressure, and a management that is endangering human lives.”

The strike committee emphasizes that the safety of workers, school‑children passengers, and elderly users of the service is being alarmingly compromised.

“Safety is being compromised in an alarming way.”

In addition to describing the situation as “modern slavery,” the committee explains that the company assigns vehicles in poor condition, with pending faults, ADAS safety systems deactivated, and even expired technical inspections (ITV), despite numerous labor inspections filed.

“Vehicles are handed over in bad shape, with unresolved breakdowns, safety systems turned off, and expired inspections, despite many work inspections being lodged.”

Furthermore, according to the committee, drivers receive these vehicles under direct personal responsibility, fearing sanctions for disobedience if they refuse to take to the road.

“They are afraid of being penalized for disobedience if they refuse to go out on the road.”

“This situation forces them to choose between risking their own lives and those of the passengers, or risking dismissal and being left without an economic livelihood.”
