Alternative Parties Alliance for Cabildo and Parliament Elections
AMF, Fuerteventura Avanza and Juntos por Pájara announced on Tuesday in Puerto del Rosario the creation of an island‑wide electoral coalition ahead of the 2027 elections. The project is presented as a government‑oriented initiative that remains open to the incorporation of other political forces.
Formation of the Island‑wide Coalition
The alliance was presented by Juan Nicolás Cabrera, president of the Asamblea Majorera de Fuerteventura (AMF). He framed the agreement around a shared diagnosis:
- Fuerteventura has lost political weight in the Canary Islands and its ability to defend its interests before other administrations.
- This decline is linked to the wear of the current governing bloc (PSOE–Coalición Canaria), which, according to the promoters, suffers from a lack of political direction, loss of initiative, and weakness on key island issues.
In this context, the new coalition positions itself as an alternative to recover a distinct voice in the archipelago and to strengthen Fuerteventura’s stance on:
- Infrastructure
- Territorial planning
- Public transport
- The primary sector
- Energy
- The demographic challenge
Cabrera emphasized that the coalition maintains an open and integrative vocation. He confirmed that contacts have been made with other formations, including Nueva Canarias and Canarias Primero, but clarified that there is no agreement or pre‑agreement with Nueva Canarias—only informational exchanges without political advances.
Rafael Perdomo, secretary‑general of Juntos por Pájara, added that the agreement currently covers only the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the Parliament of the Canary Islands, with no municipal extension at this stage. Any municipal proposals will be addressed later.
Regarding candidate selection, Peña Armas, president of Fuerteventura Avanza, stressed that the coalition is not formed to distribute seats, but to build a competitive electoral option:
“We are not in a seat‑splitting exercise; we will go with the best, even if that means we are not the ones,” she said, noting that no designation process has yet begun.
All three formations agreed on the need to reverse a period they describe as marked by conformism and inefficiency within the current PSOE‑CC bloc, advocating for a more decisive political action to represent Fuerteventura’s interests.
Armas Denounces Alleged Irregularities in Public Employment
During the event, Peña Armas also raised concerns about possible irregularities in public‑employment procedures at the Puerto del Rosario City Hall and the Cabildo of Fuerteventura. She claimed her party possesses information suggesting:
- Manipulation of selection tests
- Allocation of positions linked to political affinities
Armas warned that the coalition will take the matter to the courts if the outcomes of those recruitment processes confirm the alleged suspicions.
The ceremony concluded with the signing of the agreement by representatives of AMF, Fuerteventura Avanza and Juntos por Pájara, formally launching a coalition that describes itself as open to future incorporations.
