AM-CC Tuineje labels the Popular Party's rallies as "political ridicule"

“It seems Esther Hernández forgets that during her term she completely cancelled the Black‑Sand Festival in 2019,” the nationalists claim.

The Local Political Council of Asamblea Majorera – Coalición Canaria Tuineje denounced the Popular Party’s recent press conference as “an evident exercise of political ridicule.” They described the opposition councilor Esther Hernández as “lamentable” for using the suspension of the children’s parade of the International Clowns Festival as a pretext to demand the removal of current municipal officials.

Accusations of Hypocrisy

  • The PP’s criticism of the cancelled children’s parade ignores that the clowns still visited schools and the rest of the programme proceeded as scheduled.
  • The nationalists argue that Hernández’s intent is to tarnish the municipality with continuous accusations, reflecting her inability to assume her opposition role.
  • They add that the PP refuses to grant opportunities at island or autonomous level, thwarting its own aspirations.

Administrative Irresponsibility

The council claims the PP showed a great lack of responsibility both in municipal administration and in draining municipal coffers:

  • The previous legislature failed to provide the town hall with structural stability, leading to chronic staffing shortages.
  • Personnel and hiring processes were not updated, and a Job‑Position Relation (RPT) was never created for essential roles such as architect, agronomist engineer, or jurist. These positions are crucial for technical capacity and economic development.
  • A temporary agreement with the Cabildo allowed a short‑term boost to the technical office, but when it ended the office was abandoned, leaving essential tasks unattended—a situation inherited by the current government.

“The political amnesia of the Popular Party is astonishing,” the local executive noted.

Financial Mismanagement Under Hernández

  • In 2023, Hernández’s administration failed to approve municipal budgets, causing a severe operational blockage.
  • Despite a historic budget of €16 million and €21 million in residual funds, investments were minimal: of nearly €500,000 earmarked for sustainable projects, only €40,000 were spent.
  • Numerous important projects were left stalled, and personal conflicts with Sergio Lloret allegedly caused Tuineje to miss many development opportunities.

Hidden Debt and Service Disruptions

  • The town hall inherited a hidden debt of €162,000 to the cleaning company (accumulated 2020‑2024 due to outdated price revisions).
  • The cleaning staff announced an indefinite strike, threatening public health. The debt was later recognized and paid by the AM‑CC Fuerteventura government to avert collapse.
  • The 2022 ice‑rink installation resulted in a court ruling that forced the municipality to pay ≈ €20,000 plus interest and costs, highlighting “lack of rigor in minor contracts.”

Security Shortcomings

  • The local police force was insufficient for 24‑hour coverage, creating reliance on external reinforcements and the Guardia Civil.
  • The current Coalición Canaria government has added ten local police positions to meet security demands.

Wasteful Spending and Neglected Services

  • The PP’s administration spent extravagantly on parties and propaganda for the former mayor, while social services suffered from systematic neglect.
  • Essential orthoprosthetic equipment—articulated beds, cranes, wheelchairs—remained unavailable due to budgetary gaps.

Education Controversy

  • The PP criticized municipal schools, yet education competence lies with the Canary Islands Government.
  • According to AM‑CC, councilor Poli Suarez (Hernández’s party colleague) did nothing to improve education, possibly driven by partisan interests.

“If you’re so concerned about education, why haven’t you urged your party colleague to accelerate pending works, such as the improvements at CEIP Gran Tarajal?”

  • Despite the pending school‑improvement project, the departmental budget contains no allocated funds.
  • The fate of the former Student Residence adjacent to the school remains unknown.
  • AM‑CC alleges Hernández avoids seeking the education councilor’s support because “politically she prefers to discredit the municipality rather than contribute to its development.”

Response to PP’s Threats

AM‑CC Tuineje rebuked the PP’s intention to appeal to the Spanish Prime Minister for the dismissal of the local government. They reminded the PP that such measures are reserved for cases of repeated support for terrorism, humiliation of victims, or extreme corruption—none of which apply here.

Final Assessment

The nationalists conclude that Esther Hernández is merely creating an image of chaos and loss of control in the town hall, promoting a negative view of Tuineje. They add that she appears more focused on launching her 2027 campaign than on exercising responsible opposition.
