The Island Neuromajo Championship 2025 gathered nearly 300 seniors from across Fuerteventura at the Pozo Negro Experimental Farm. The Amigos de Pájara team clinched first place and will represent the island in the regional final in Maspalomas this December.

Competition Overview

The weekend finale featured a series of physical and mental challenges, including Relays, the “Aro Canario,” Cifras y Letras, and the Carrera de Letras. Amigos de Pájara emerged as champions, followed by:

  • 2nd place: Las Apañás (Puerto del Rosario)
  • 3rd place: Las Elegidas (Antigua)
  • 4th place: Camellito (Tuineje)

The festive atmosphere kicked off on Friday with a parade through Corralejo and continued throughout the weekend.

Municipal Celebration

The Pájara Town Hall honored the victory of its local team, which comprised 74 seniors and 9 coaches. Councilor for the Elderly, Ángeles Acosta, praised the participants:

“Our seniors have given a lesson in vitality, excitement, and camaraderie. We especially congratulate the Amigos de Pájara team for this great achievement, which fills us with pride as a municipality.”

Mayor Alejandro Jorge added:

“The success of this event shows that promoting active and healthy aging is a priority for the island of Fuerteventura.”

Institutional Support

During the medal ceremony, the Cabildo president Lola García, Social Action councilor Víctor Alonso, and mayors and councilors from all municipalities attended, underscoring their backing of an initiative that strengthens active aging. The Cabildo thanked the participating town halls, the Neurolímpica Association, and Padilla Supermercados Spar for their contributions to the event’s organization.

Looking Ahead

Neuromajo 2025 is a joint project of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, the island’s six municipalities, and the Neurolímpica Association, aimed at fostering participation, health, and well‑being among seniors. Preparations are already underway for the third edition, with its launch slated for Caleta de Fuste (Antigua) and the competition to be held in Tuineje.
