Ampuyenta Becomes the Epicenter of Island Culture
Award Ceremony for the III “Doctor Mena” Literary Contest and Competition
The San Pedro Alcántara Neighborhood Association, in coordination with the Museums of Fuerteventura, presented the awards to the winners of the third “Doctor Mena” Literary Contest and Competition, which attracted participants from across the Canary Islands in the poetry and micro‑story categories.
Lola García, President of the Fuerteventura Island Council, praised the Neighborhood Association for keeping the initiative alive, stating that it “demonstrates that culture is built from closeness and commitment,” and highlighted “the talent we have on our island.”
Rayco León, Councillor for Museums of Fuerteventura, explained that the competition once again showcases the commitment of the Ampuyenta community to culture and literature, solidifying the event as a meeting point for literary creativity throughout the archipelago.
David de Vera, Mayor of Puerto del Rosario, thanked the Island Council and the association for making the competition possible and invited everyone to join the rest of the program of the Festivals in Honor of Fray Andresito.
Also present were Juan Manuel Verdugo, Cultural Councillor of the Puerto del Rosario City Council, David Reyes, President of the San Pedro Alcántara Neighborhood Association, and Idaira Reyes, project coordinator. They highlighted the strong participation—around 200 works—and emphasized the high quality and diversity of the submissions.
