.Antigua champions tradition‑respecting tourism development at FITUR

.

The main hotels of Caleta de Fuste collaborate with the Antigua City Council to organise popular events and beautify the tourist environment.

Mayor Matías Peña García: “Antigua presents itself at FITUR as a municipality that combines the multimillion‑euro investment in the tourist locality with the defence of the tradition and customs of its rural surroundings.”

Mayor Matías Peña García: “It is a defence of our culture and identity in the face of tourist development.” This stance is reflected in the reinvestment in public‑space beautification and infrastructure upgrades, supported by direct benefits from the private tourism sector—€4.5 million recorded in the 2025 fiscal year from construction licences, thanks to the II Tourism Modernisation Plan approved by the Antigua council.

The municipality is also promoting collaboration among tourism entities, hotels, businesses, and local establishments to organise public events, incorporate high‑quality local products into their offerings, and highlight key attractions such as the Island Handicraft Fair, Feaga, the upcoming Carnival, and the creation of new jobs within the municipality.

Tourism Councilor Kristina Rodewig: “We aim to develop by modernising conditions and the tourist offer, improving the profile of visitors, while ensuring reinvestment for all towns in the municipality and better living and working conditions for residents.”

Antigua showcases at FITUR occupancy rates above 90 %—a level maintained for the past two years—alongside a multimillion‑euro investment in tourism improvements and a diversified offer that delivers excellence in service quality.
