Antigua Halts All Municipal Activities
Alert and pre‑alert notices for strong wind, rain or coastal phenomena determine precautionary measures
The City Council of Antigua has suspended all scheduled municipal activities from Thursday, March 19, until the end of the alert and pre‑alert notices declared by the Government of the Canary Islands through the Directorate General of Emergencies.
Adverse weather conditions—including strong winds, high waves and intense rain—have prompted the council to advise residents to avoid traveling or to limit movements to the absolute minimum. All indoor and outdoor municipal programs are therefore suspended from Thursday, March 19, until the alerts are lifted.
The decision follows the recommendations of the Canary Islands Directorate General of Emergencies and the State Meteorological Agency, among other authorities.
Residents are urged to stay informed through official channels, avoid unnecessary travel, inspect roofs, balconies, drains and windows, exercise extreme caution when driving—especially at night—and take any measures that prevent unnecessary exposure to personal risk.
