Antigua kicks off a new cleaning contract worth over $11 million

The Antigua City Council unanimously approved in a plenary session the tender documents that will govern the new cleaning, waste‑collection and transport service for the municipality. The contract has an initial budget of €11,242,485.16 and a duration of four years, extendable to a fifth.

The approval of the tender documents marks the start of the administrative procedure. Once the tender notice is published on the Public Sector Contracting Platform, interested companies will be able to review the technical and administrative specifications and submit their offers.

According to the council, the new contract will almost double the amount of the previous service, rising from just over €1 million per year to more than €2 million per year, and it also includes improvements to the working conditions of the staff.

The contracting file is divided into two separate blocks:

  • Block 1: cleaning of public spaces and collection and transport of waste.
  • Block 2: maintenance of municipal buildings.

“The approval of the tender documents fulfills a commitment to modernise and improve the efficiency of the cleaning service across all towns and villages of the municipality,” said Mayor Matías Peña García.

“The documentation will be available both on the Contracting Platform and on the municipal website or electronic headquarters once the tender is published,” added Environmental Councilor Juan Cabrera Peña, as detailed in the municipal note.
