Around 80 Tons of Waste Cleared from Costa Calma
“Fuerteventura, Beautiful by Nature,” in coordination with the Pájara City Council, cleans, clears and beautifies seven safety pedestrian corridors in the area.
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, together with the Pájara City Council, has finished the extensive “shock action” carried out in the urban core of Costa Calma. Teams from the “Fuerteventura, Beautiful by Nature” program removed more than 400 m³ of plant debris and litter, clearing the pedestrian pathways alongside the FV‑603 road.
Actions Undertaken
- Drainage maintenance: Unclogged the drainage system located beneath the FV‑2 highway as it passes through Costa Calma.
- Pedestrian corridor work: Cleaned, cleared and beautified seven safety pedestrian corridors and two public squares to restore safety and improve the visual appeal of these public spaces.
- Surface area covered: Over 1,150 m² were treated, combining visible tasks (clearing and cleaning the pathways) with essential “invisible” work such as removing accumulated sediments from the surroundings and the drainage outlets under the FV‑603 to prevent flooding during rain.
The operation lasted four weeks. In the first days alone, crews filled eight bins with pruning debris, cleared vegetation and collected garbage from the initial corridors and the road margins.
Impact
The deployment of squads from the Cabildo’s Works and Machinery Service, coordinated with the Pájara City Council, fulfills the goals of the “Fuerteventura, Beautiful by Nature” program: delivering rapid, direct actions that enhance the quality of life and the natural environment of the island. These close‑to‑citizen interventions generate a significant positive impact on both the local community and the native ecosystems.
