Arrested for gender-based violence, sexual assault and home invasion in Corralejo

The Civil Guard of the Corralejo main station (Fuerteventura), in coordination with the Gender Violence Unit of Puerto del Rosario, detained a man suspected of committing several offenses related to gender‑based violence, sexual assault and home burglary. According to a press release, the suspect was already subject to a judicial order for search, arrest and imprisonment due to previous breaches of a protection order.

The arrest took place on December 29, after a woman reported that her ex‑partner had entered her home by climbing onto the balcony of a first‑floor apartment. Once inside, the man allegedly groped and made sexual propositions to the victim, who was sleeping in her bedroom. When the woman resisted, the assailant fled the premises.

Following the complaint, the Civil Guard launched an operation to locate the suspect. Given the seriousness of the incident and the suspect’s criminal record, officers established a permanent surveillance perimeter around the victim to guarantee her safety, complemented by discreet counter‑surveillance at her residence.

Simultaneously, investigators expanded their search to the suspect’s family, friends and frequented locations. During this phase, the Gender Violence Unit obtained a photograph the suspect had sent to his ex‑partner. The image showed part of an interior space overlooking a pool and garden area, suggesting the suspect might be staying in a residential complex or hotel.

“The sending of this image heightened the victim’s fear and anguish, as it indicated the aggressor was still at large and actively challenging police action,” the unit noted.

Using the photograph, officers compared it with several residential complexes linked to the suspect’s environment. After detailed verification, they identified the suspect’s location in an apartment complex on Avenida Juan Carlos I in Corralejo.

On January 3, a locating device was deployed in the area. Officers approached a suspicious dwelling and, after knocking, heard noises inside but received no response. Anticipating an attempt to flee, they inspected the ground‑floor apartments. A cooperative resident granted access to his home, where officers discovered the fugitive hiding in a small interior courtyard. They confirmed that the suspect had slid down a multi‑meter pipe from the second floor in an effort to escape.

The operation concluded with the detention of the man at 13:00 on January 3, ending the coordinated effort led by the Civil Guard of Puerto del Rosario. The detainee, together with the compiled investigative files, was presented to the guard court of Puerto del Rosario on January 4, where a prison sentence without bail was ordered.
