Arrested in Fuerteventura for prostituting a disabled woman after deceiving her with a fake job

The woman, a Spanish national, has a recognized disability of 57 %.

The National Police have arrested a man in Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura) on suspicion of human trafficking for sexual exploitation. He allegedly prostituted a Spanish woman who has a 57 % recognized disability after deceiving her with a false employment offer and transporting her to the island.

In a statement, the Superior Police Headquarters of the Canary Islands said the investigation began on 5 January following a complaint filed by the victim herself.

The woman reported that she was brought to the island under the pretense of a job opportunity. Once in Fuerteventura, she was taken to a residence in the capital where she was allegedly forced to work as a prostitute, denied freedom of movement, and excluded from any control over the money earned.

According to the authorities, the detainee exercised coercive and intimidating control over the victim, exploiting her vulnerable situation and recognized 57 % disability.

Part of the sexual exploitation was reportedly carried out by publishing advertisements on online contact portals, which were managed directly by the suspect.

Police action immediately halted the exploitation and ensured the victim’s comprehensive protection.

The perpetrator was detained on 14 January in Puerto del Rosario. After the investigative procedures were completed, he was handed over to the competent judicial authority.
