Arrested in Morro Jable with Crack and Cocaine Hidden in a Secret Compartment

Agents of the Prevention, Reaction and Intervention Unit (UPRI) of the General Body of the Canary Police detained a man on Thursday night in Morro Jable (Fuerteventura) as a suspected offender of a public‑health crime.

Seized Substances and Assets

During the operation, officers confiscated:

  • 90 doses of crack
  • 34 thermosealed packages of cocaine, cut into small units and found inside a vehicle
  • €380 in cash
  • 26 bank cards belonging to different holders, whose origin is being investigated for possible links to criminal activity

The Secret Compartment

The vehicle was equipped with a concealment mechanism activated by a wired switch, granting access to a hidden compartment beneath the co‑driver’s seat. The location of this cavity was identified thanks to the intervention of the Canary Police Canine Guides Unit, whose dogs’ work proved decisive.

Judicial Handling

The seized vehicle and all confiscated items have been placed under judicial custody at the Morro Jable Civil Guard headquarters while investigations continue.

Operational Context

The raid forms part of the Citizen Security Shock Plan launched by the General Body of the Canary Police in Fuerteventura. The plan was highlighted in a statement from the Presidency, Public Administrations, Justice and Security Council, headed by Nieves Lady Barreto.

“This operation demonstrates the effectiveness of our coordinated security strategy and the indispensable role of our canine units in combating drug trafficking,” said Nieves Lady Barreto.

The case remains under judicial investigation as authorities pursue further leads on the origin of the bank cards and any associated criminal networks.
