Arrested in Puerto del Rosario for child abuse in his country of origin

The National Police have arrested a 58-year-old Colombian man in Puerto del Rosario, against whom there was an International Arrest Warrant (IAW), issued by Colombian authorities through INTERPOL, for the crimes of abuse and sexual assault against minors, punishable by prison sentences of 22 years.

The arrest took place after July 31st, when National Police agents began an investigation after receiving communication from the Organized Crime and Drug Unit (UDYCO) of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria regarding the IAW issued by Colombian authorities, as reported by the police force in a press release.

In response, the agents set up a police operation that allowed the wanted man to be located, identified and arrested on August 1st in the municipality of Puerto del Rosario, where he was hiding.

Thus, after completing police procedures, the detainee has been made available to the competent judicial authority, the Central Court of Instruction No. 5 of the National Court, which ordered his provisional imprisonment in the Tahíche Detention Center, on the island of Lanzarote, until all necessary procedures can be completed to hand him over to the requesting authorities.
