Balearia's Passió per Formentera ferry on the Playa Blanca‑Corralejo route
The Balearia vessel Passió per Formentera will sail on the Playa Blanca‑Corralejo line starting tomorrow afternoon, replacing the temporarily out‑of‑service ferry Volcán de Tindaya, which is currently undergoing maintenance at the ASTICAN shipyard.
The ship will retain its distinctly Canarian name and will be repainted in Balearia Canarias’ corporate livery – a bright “Balearia green.”
“Passió per Formentera will operate on the Playa Blanca‑Corralejo route while the Volcán de Tindaya is in the shipyard,” said a spokesperson from Balearia’s Puente de Mando.
Service schedule
- Start of service: Tomorrow afternoon (May 5) on the Playa Blanca‑Corralejo line.
- Expected duration: Until May 26 or 27, after which the vessel will return to its regular Algeciras‑Ceuta crossing.
Context
The temporary reassignment coincides with Balearia’s planned acquisition of the Grupo Armas Trasmediterránea. An extraordinary general meeting to finalize the takeover is scheduled for May 8 at Naviera Armas’ headquarters in Las Palmas.
The move ensures uninterrupted ferry service between Fuerteventura’s northern tip (Corralejo) and the southern coastal town of Playa Blanca while the Volcán de Tindaya receives its scheduled overhaul.
