Betancuria Receives €10,000 from the Board for International Promotion

The €10,000 financial support is justified by Betancuria’s recognition as one of Spain’s most beautiful villages. The grant is part of the tourism budget allocated by the Cabildo’s Tourism Department through the Board to municipal events of tourist relevance, such as the World Windsurf and Wingfoil Championship (Pájara); the Beach Party (Antigua); the San Miguel Juried Festivities (Tuineje); and the International Kite Festival (La Oliva).

Betancuria has formalized a named grant with the Fuerteventura Tourism Board linked to its membership in the “Most Beautiful Villages of Spain” network, a distinction that not only raises the village’s external visibility but also serves as a channel to obtain public funds for the conservation and improvement of its heritage.

The agreement was signed on Monday by island tourism councilor Marlene Figueroa and Betancuria mayor Enrique Cerdeña. It provides an investment of €10,000 that will be transferred to the town hall from the Cabildo. The aim is to support the preservation of the municipality’s tourist‑interest heritage, the island authority said in a statement.

The agreement follows the economic criteria approved by the Patronage’s Governing Council in December 2025, which maintains in 2026 the line of support for municipal events of tourist relevance. The funding package also includes:

  • The Achipencos Regatta in Puerto del Rosario
  • The World Windsurf and Wingfoil Championship in Pájara
  • The Beach Party in Antigua
  • The San Miguel Juried Festivities in Tuineje
  • The International Kite Festival in La Oliva
