Bike lane linking La Capellanía and Corralejo approved by La Oliva and the government
The municipal council of La Oliva, together with the Canary Islands Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Mobility, has given final approval to the construction of complementary works on the FV‑1 road segment that connects La Capellanía with Corralejo.
The €1.85 million project will:
- Install acoustic screens to reduce highway noise in the residential area.
- Improve the integration of the road within its surroundings.
- Add a dedicated bike lane, answering a long‑standing demand from the residents of Tamaragua.
The main goal is to reinforce the functionality of the route, promote sustainable mobility, and enhance the infrastructure safely and diversely.
“With this action we respond to one of the neighbourhood’s biggest demands by creating a bike lane that runs from La Capellanía to Corralejo. In addition, the project builds on the recently approved installation of lighting on the roundabouts from Corralejo to La Caldereta,” said Isaí Blanco, mayor of La Oliva.
“This initiative, which will improve the sustainability of the infrastructure and the quality of life for residents, is carried out within the framework of our Green Strategy. Sustainability is not a mere label but a core axis for planning, maintaining, and using our roads,” emphasized Pablo Rodríguez, the regional minister of Public Works, Housing and Mobility. “We have moved beyond the traditional view of a road as just a strip of asphalt.”
“The Cabildo is delighted that the bike lane project, long demanded by the La Oliva council and the residents of La Capellanía, has finally been approved. It will boost sustainable mobility, allowing people to travel by bicycle while also improving local quality of life by reducing highway noise with the acoustic screens,” added Lola García, president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura.
The approval reflects the local government’s commitment to improving the road network, fostering sustainable transport, and enhancing living conditions for the municipality’s inhabitants.
