Binter Eyes Opportunities After Ryanair's Exit

The Canary airline would grow in destinations after the “scare” of the Irish low‑cost carrier

The airline Binter Canarias is probing opportunities in the connections between the archipelago and the mainland that Ryanair will abandon this winter, amid its dispute with Aena over rising airport fees, reports Tiempo de Canarias.

Initially, the Canary Islands are one of the regions most affected by Ryanair’s decision, as 20 % of the two million seats it will cut (400,000) correspond to the islands, and the carrier will also cease operations at Tenerife North Airport.

Since it began incorporating Embraer E195‑E2 jets into its fleet, Binter has undertaken a significant deployment of routes from the Canary Islands to the peninsula and the Balearic Islands. Its latest major bet is Madrid‑Barajas, with eight daily round‑trip flights (four from Gran Canaria and four from Tenerife North).

Currently, Binter flies from the Canary Islands to the following airports, many of which are among those most impacted by Ryanair’s exit:

  • A Coruña
  • Almería
  • Asturias
  • Badajoz
  • Córdoba
  • Granada
  • Jerez
  • Madrid
  • Menorca
  • Murcia
  • Palma
  • Pamplona
  • San Sebastián
  • Santander
  • Valencia
  • Valladolid
  • Vigo
  • Zaragoza
