Binter Plans 20 Weekly Flights from the Canary Islands
Flights from the capital islands will include free connections to the rest of the archipelago.
Binter inaugurated a direct link between Sevilla and the islands of Gran Canaria and Tenerife on Monday. The service starts with 20 weekly flights (ten to each of the two central islands) operating on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, providing an alternative to the low‑cost carriers that currently serve the route.
Binter’s Differentiated Offering
The airline’s commercial, marketing and communications director, Miguel Ángel Suárez, expressed satisfaction with the launch and highlighted the strong sales performance, which are already meeting the company’s targets.
“We are in the introductory phase of the Sevilla route. As the market becomes familiar with it and demand grows, we will add more frequencies and, if possible, expand to daily service.”
Suárez emphasized that Binter’s service differs markedly from the low‑cost model (the only low‑cost airline that currently connects Sevilla with the Canaries). Key differentiators include:
- More seat space and the elimination of the middle seat for greater passenger comfort.
- On‑board Canary‑product catering included in the ticket price.
- Cabin baggage allowance incorporated in the fare.
“In short, we offer Sevilla a different way to fly to the Canaries – the ‘Canary mode’ – which stands out for its quality, service, and for doing something significantly different from ‘low‑cost’ airlines.”
The aircraft used are Embraer Eco 2 jets, each with 132 seats, described as comfortable and quiet.
Island‑Wide Connectivity
Suárez clarified that the goal is not merely to promote Gran Canaria or Tenerife—where Binter’s bases are located—but to provide seamless connections to all eight Canary Islands. A passenger from Sevilla can fly to any island at the same price as a ticket to Gran Canaria or Tenerife, thanks to the 250 inter‑island flights that Binter operates.
“Binter aims to be an alternative for passengers who seek a different flying experience, offering reasonable and competitive prices with a strong quality‑to‑price ratio.”
Official Reception
The inauguration was attended by several officials, including:
- Francisco Toscano, Sub‑delegate of the Government in Sevilla.
- Angie Moreno, Deputy Mayor and Delegate for Tourism and Culture of Sevilla.
- Sergio Millanes, Director of Sevilla‑San Pablo Airport.
In remarks to the press, Millanes welcomed Binter’s entry, noting that the Canary corridor will account for almost 10 % of the airport’s national traffic. He projected a growth of over 9 % in passenger numbers for the winter season.
“The airport currently operates 109 routes with nearly 30 airlines. Next summer, Vueling will add a new route to London Heathrow, and we expect more airlines and destinations to join us.”
The Sub‑delegate praised the airport’s dynamism, highlighting that a new route is launched almost every month and that the 2023 expansion and renovation have enabled the facility to absorb this growth. Recent milestones include 900,000 passengers in October and over eight million travelers this year.
Angie Moreno underscored the boost to tourism and the economic opportunities the new connection creates. She confirmed that the City Council, together with the Junta de Andalucía and AENA, is working on further improving connectivity, including the prospect of a long‑haul flight from Sevilla
