Breaks into Corralejo chalet, steals €6,000 in jewelry and a wallet

The suspect was released on bail with charges after appearing before the court

The Civil Guard of Corralejo, on the island of Fuerteventura, has detained a man for allegedly stealing a tourist’s wallet and two rings valued at about €6,800 from a holiday home in the town.

The arrest took place within the “Cintillos” operation after the tourist filed a complaint on 18 January, stating that she had been robbed of her personal wallet and two rings, according to a press release from the Civil Guard.

The woman reported that the theft occurred while she was sleeping inside the property, which the alleged perpetrator entered without forcing doors or windows. She only realized the robbery when she received several bank messages alerting her to small, suspicious charges made with her stolen cards.

“I noticed the theft when my bank sent me messages about unauthorized transactions on my cards,” the victim explained.

Using this information, agents examined the footage from the merchants where the unauthorized charges were processed, all located in Puerto del Rosario, which enabled them to identify the suspect.

The investigation highlighted the decisive collaboration of the National Police, as the suspect turned out to be a known individual in the municipality with a history of similar offenses.

Once identified, officers from the Corralejo Main Station continued their inquiries. After collecting statements and conducting a photographic identification, they confirmed that the clothing the man wore when using the stolen cards matched exactly the images captured around the holiday home.

A distinctive cap worn by the suspect allowed agents to clearly identify him, linking him to the theft.

During the search, carried out between the night of 19 January and the morning of 20 January, the Civil Guard located the suspect in Puerto del Rosario and recovered one of the stolen rings – a gold piece set with precious stones and several rubies – which the victim recognized as her property.

The case files and the detainee have been handed over to the court on duty in Puerto del Rosario. The suspect was released on bail with charges on 22 January.
