CAAF ranks among the top in Canary Islands transparency

The ITCanarias indicator measures the degree of accessibility, updating, and quality of the information published on transparency portals.

The Water Supply Consortium of Fuerteventura (CAAF), an entity dependent on the Island Council of Fuerteventura, has obtained a rating of 7.46 points in the latest evaluation by the Canary Islands Transparency Commissioner for the 2023‑2024 period. This score represents a qualitative leap compared with previous assessments and places CAAF among the Canary public entities with the highest transparency indicators.

The Transparency and Access to Public Information Commissioner of the Canary Islands periodically reviews the compliance of more than 400 public entities with active publicity obligations. The ITCanarias indicator gauges how accessible, up‑to‑date, and well‑crafted the information on transparency portals is.

In CAAF’s case, the evolution has been remarkable. After years of average scores—and even a decline in the 2022 evaluation (0.21 points in the first half of 2023)—the effort of the technical and management teams has led to a “notable” rating in this latest review, reflecting a firm commitment to the citizenry.

“This score is the result of joint work and the commitment to improve the management of public information. For us, transparency is not only a legal requirement but an ethical obligation toward the citizens of Fuerteventura. We want anyone to have clear, simple, and up‑to‑date access to how the consortium operates and how the island’s water resources are managed.”
— Adargoma Hernández, CEO of CAAF

He added:

“This result motivates us to keep working with greater rigor. We are not satisfied with ‘notable’; we aim to position CAAF among the reference public entities in transparency throughout the Canary Islands.”

Future Commitment

  • CAAF will continue strengthening its communication channels and access to information.
  • The consortium plans to expand the documentation available on its transparency portal.
  • New digital tools will be introduced to improve interaction with citizens.

With this evaluation, CAAF demonstrates that transparency is a central pillar of its management and a permanent commitment to the residents of Fuerteventura.
