Cabildo Advances LED Light Installation Across

Airport entrance and south exit now illuminated with an energy‑saving system

The Cabildo has replaced the 22 luminaires that illuminate the access road to Fuerteventura Airport and its south‑bound exit. Switching from sodium‑vapor lamps to LED units represents a qualitative leap, bringing several improvements in road safety, energy savings, and sustainability.

“The replacement of luminaires updates the equipment in the island’s road network, increases its efficiency and safety, and reduces environmental impact,” explained Blas Acosta, Roads Counselor.

“We are enhancing comfort and safety for road users, and this replacement also means energy savings and greater sustainability of our infrastructure,” highlighted Lola García, President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura.

To date, the Cabildo’s Roads Service has swapped out more than 200 sodium‑vapor luminaires on the coastal roads for LED equivalents, covering over half of the island’s road lighting. The modernization program proceeds according to schedule.

In the specific case of the airport access, workers from the Roads Service and the contracted maintenance consortium (UTE) have installed the 22 new LED fixtures, improving nighttime visibility for both drivers and pedestrians using the newly built pedestrian access to the airport, also carried out by the Roads Service.

The new pedestrian corridor connects the airport with the Llanos de la Mareta parking area and the bus stop. This access completes the works on the elevated structure over the FV‑2 and the entrance road to the parking lot, creating a “safe corridor” of 145 linear metres between the airport and Llanos de la Mare
