Cabildo Buys Its First Fully Electric Buses
Currently, charging tests are being carried out for vehicles on the line between the Puerto del Rosario station, the airport and the main stop at Caleta de Fuste.
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has received three 100% electric buses, the first to operate in the island’s public transport service. These high‑performance vehicles guarantee full accessibility for passengers and increase the fleet’s autonomy. The acquisition, costing almost €2 million, has been fully financed with European (Next Generation) funds earmarked for sustainable mobility projects.
In the coming days the Cabildo will continue charging trials with staff from the contracted company, after which the three units will be integrated into regular service. They will reinforce the line that runs between the Puerto del Rosario station, the airport and the main stop at Caleta de Fuste—one of the most demanded routes by users.
“The improvement this will bring to collective travel on the islands is significant. Zero‑emission buses will strengthen the service with higher frequencies, more seats available and shorter waiting times for passengers,” said Lola García, President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, after testing the new vehicles firsthand.
Accompanying the president were David de Vera, Mayor of Puerto del Rosario, who praised the addition of the new buses for better connecting the capital with strategic points such as the airport, and Luis González, Councillor for Transport and Mobility of the Cabildo, who highlighted the administrative work carried out to manage the European funds efficiently and thanked the Cabildo’s Industry Area for its
