Cabildo Commemorates World Mental Health Day with Events Oct. 14‑15
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura will mark World Mental Health Day by hosting a two‑day series of sessions on October 14 and 15 at the Auditorium of the Island Youth Center. The initiative is organized by the Department of Social Action, led by Víctor Alonso, through the Information and Addiction Prevention Service (SIPA), and enjoys the collaboration of the Canary Islands Health Service and the association Asomasamen.
“Mental Health Days and Their Approach from a Transversal Perspective”
The event is aimed at both health‑social professionals and the general public. Its purpose is to raise awareness about mental health, promote emotional well‑being, and provide tools that help people understand the factors influencing psychological balance.
October 14 – First Day
- Presentation of the mental‑health resources available on the island.
- Topics covered: self‑care, prevention of child‑and‑adolescent suicide, and the relationship between sport and mental health.
October 15 – Second Day
- Sessions will explore mental health from an integral viewpoint, gender perspective, the impact of nutrition, and the role of families in emotional management.
Registration is limited, so participants must sign up in advance via the online form.
“Mental health is an essential pillar of well‑being and requires a comprehensive approach that involves the whole community. These days aim to provide tools and reflection to keep moving toward a more conscious and healthy society,” said Víctor Alonso, Counselor for Social Action.
Alonso added, “Thanks to coordination with associations and mental‑health professionals, Fuerteventura has made significant strides in caring for and sensitizing the public about an issue that concerns us all and that demands a sustained, global response.”
