Cabildo Council Passes Institutional Motion to Defend Postal Workers in Fuerteventura

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has approved an institutional motion defending the island’s public postal service and the employees of Correos, recognizing the company as a basic and essential public institution for territorial cohesion and equal rights for all citizens.

  • The island’s postal service is facing a critical situation, with staff reductions of up to 50 % and the elimination of temporary workers, leaving many communities without regular mail delivery.
  • The Cabildo urges the Government of Spain to immediately implement the postal amendment published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) on 29 July 2025, to ensure an urgent reinforcement of personnel and resources on the island.
  • The motion demands decent working conditions for postal workers and the creation of a specific rural delivery plan tailored to Fuerteventura’s geographic and demographic realities, where distance and population dispersion hinder equal service provision.
  • It also calls on the Parliament of the Canary Islands and the regional government to support these demands and use their institutional role to guarantee the postal service remains in optimal condition across all islands, especially in non‑capital territories.

By adopting this motion, the Cabildo of Fuerteventura expresses solid support for Correos staff and defends the continuation of an essential public service that underpins citizens’ daily life, economic development, and social cohesion throughout the archipelago.
