Cabildo dismisses 40 participants from two youth PFAE programs

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura closed the youth‑alternance training schemes “Fuerteventura Cares at Home” and “Fuerteventura Preserves Its Environment.” The programs involved 30 unemployed young people under 30 years old, plus the management, teaching and administrative staff, bringing the total to 40 participants. Both schemes were funded with a combined investment of almost €900,000.

The projects, aimed at individuals aged 16‑30 within the Youth Guarantee programme, ran for eleven months. Funding came from the Canary Islands Employment Service, co‑financed 85 % by the European Social Fund Plus 2021‑2027 (Canary Islands), with additional contributions from the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the Government of the Canary Islands through the FDCAN.

  • “Fuerteventura Cares at Home” trained 15 young people to obtain Level 2 professional certificates in social‑health care for home‑bound individuals and care for dependent persons in social institutions. During the training, the participants provided direct assistance in homes and social centres, serving nearly 200 people across various municipalities in coordination with local councils and the Cabildo’s Social Action department.
  • “Fuerteventura Preserves Its Environment” prepared another 15 participants as auxiliaries in nurseries, gardens and horticultural centres, as well as in green‑area maintenance. Internships took place at the La Oliva Biological Station and the Municipal Park “La Tunera,” focusing on plant production, upkeep and the conservation of green spaces.

Closure and Farewell of the 40 Participants

After the closing ceremony, the Cabildo issued a statement in which President Lola García emphasized that:

“All of the Cabildo’s employment policies are aimed at the people who need them most,”

highlighting the relevance of care for dependent persons and environmental conservation for the island’s future.

Nuria Cabrera, Councillor for Employment Promotion, noted that the programmes help reduce unemployment and foster job insertion, reporting a 51.46 % average placement rate for the social‑health track.

Isabel León, Vice‑Councillor for Employment of the Canary Islands Government, added that participants not only earned professional certificates but also gained practical skills in both personal care and environmental maintenance. She also pointed out that youth unemployment (under 25) in Fuerteventura fell by 28.7 % over the past year.

The ceremony was also attended by Councillor for Social Action Víctor Alonso, Councillor for the Environment Carlos Rodríguez, Employment Councillor for Puerto del Rosario Erica González, and SCE workshop‑school director Eduardo Camino.
