Cabildo expands island EV charging network to 16 active stations

Expansion of the Public Charging Network

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through the Department of Industry, is continuing to strengthen sustainable mobility on the island by expanding the public electric‑vehicle charging network. The island corporation has put into service four new 22 kW charging points, bringing the total to 16 active stations across all municipalities.

The work is part of a modernization project for charging infrastructure with a total investment of €213,570.17, funded by the European Next Generation EU programme. The new chargers, operational since Monday and capable of simultaneously charging two vehicles, are located in Valle de Santa Inés and Vega de Río Palmas (Betancuria), as well as on Antonio Espinosa Street (Puerto del Rosario) and Laural Street (Morro Jable, Pájara).

Official Statements

“The launch of these points represents a significant step forward for sustainable mobility on the island, modernising the charging infrastructure and contributing to a reduction in the carbon footprint, while promoting a cleaner and more efficient transport model,” said island president Lola García.

Industry councillor Lolina Negrín explained that the island network now comprises 16 operational points, distributed as follows: five fast‑charging stations of 50 kW, two stations of 10 kW, and nine stations of 22 kW (including the four newly activated).

“The adoption of electric vehicles is a real alternative to fossil fuels and an essential step toward achieving Fuerteventura’s decarbonisation goals,” Negrín emphasized.

Future Plans

The corporation will continue, in the coming days, to activate the remaining planned stations. These include new 50 kW chargers in La Lajita, Antigua, Tuineje and Pájara, as well as additional 22 kW points in Gran Tarajal, Antigua and Puerto del Rosario, with the aim of completing a fully public charging network across the island.
