Cabildo Keeps Upgrading Public Transport Infrastructure Across Fuerteventura

The employment scheme “The Cabildo Improves Your Mobility” is still carrying out rehabilitation and upgrading works on island‑wide public transport infrastructure, aiming to provide citizens with spaces that are more accessible, safe and functional while also promoting the employment of unemployed people.

“These are employment plans oriented towards strategic areas and designed to meet the real demands of the population, performing a fundamental public service in transport infrastructure,” said Lola García, President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura.

Nuria Cabrera, Councillor for Employment Promotion, explained that the actions are coordinated with the island’s Transport Department, headed by Luis González, and focus on bus stations, preferential stops and shelters distributed throughout the north, centre and south of the island.

The sites already intervened include the bus stations of Puerto del Rosario and Morro Jable, as well as preferential stops in Caleta de Fuste, Gran Tarajal, Corralejo and El Cotillo, plus shelters located in nearly fifty localities.

The works comprise comprehensive cleaning, repairs, painting and beautification of both interiors and exteriors, as well as improvements to landscaped areas and urban environments linked to public transport. In certain locations, garden maintenance, palm pruning, irrigation system adjustments and minor repairs to furniture and infrastructure have also been carried out, tailored to the specific needs of each site.

The employment plan provides jobs for 13 unemployed individuals, who are actively involved in the improvement and preservation of public spaces related to collective transport.

The initiative is funded with a total investment of €369,733.23, co‑financed by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the Government of the Canary Islands through the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN). It forms part of the island’s strategy to enhance public services, foster employment and strengthen sustainable mobility on Fuerteventura.
