Cabildo launches €1.1 million tender to upgrade Morro Jable’s Barranco del Ciervo

The project aims to enhance the channeling, stability and drainage of the watercourse while preserving the surrounding environment and the wellbeing of local residents.

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through the Island Water Council, has launched a public tender for the improvement works of the Barranco del Ciervo in Morro Jable, with a budget of €1.1 million. The works will upgrade the hydraulic functioning of this vital resource, improve conditions for cleaning and maintenance, and reinforce its structural stability.

Interested companies may submit their proposals by 4 May 2026. All the tender documentation is available on the official state procurement portal.

“Maintaining the ravine channels in good condition is an essential measure to guarantee their proper functioning and preserve the environment, also meeting a request from the municipality of Pájara,” said Lola García, island president.

The tender exceeds one million euros, reflecting the necessary investment to improve the hydraulic channeling of the Barranco del Ciervo, which currently suffers from sediment buildup and difficult access for cleaning and upkeep. As García added:

“Not only does this guarantee the stabilization of the ravine, but it also ensures the wellbeing and safety of the neighbourhood’s residents.”

Adargoma Hernández, Water Councilor, emphasized the broader objectives of the Island Water Council:

“It is crucial to improve the drainage conditions of ravines and watercourses, facilitating maintenance work and thereby avoiding the risk of overflows during the rainy season.”
